These are words we use a lot every day. They are easy useful and powerful. However, there're something you need to pay attention. See the following example:
"I have tried my best to contact him. I called his home, his cellular. And I sent an email to ask him call me. But I can't reach him. So I think he must leave the country."

It's OK when you talk to others. However, it's not proper in written or formal talking.
Use However instead of But, Additionally/in addition to instead of And, Therefore instead of So. Sometimes, it's not even necessary to use these words.
There're couple of other words which are similar to these. I can't remember them now.
I only remember if you link the first letter of these words together, it's another English word.
