I imagine...they dated for some time, hugging in movie theatre, feeding each other in restaurant and walking hand in hand on the beach and all that stuff. One day, maybe it is a misunderstanding or he is a good liar, she is really upset about him. She is not particularly furious, but she becomes cold and indifferent. Maybe he is totally wronged or he thinks he can get away with another lie, so he keeps showing up at her favourite places, calling her and trying to ask her out, until she is finally fed up. Then she sings this song. The message of the song is "get the hell away from me!"

When I first heard the song, although she kept singing "please don't call me," I thought the message was "Yes, we broke up. But I am lonely, just pick up the damn phone and call me!" Then I listened to it again and again, then I understood. It was a it-is-over song.
