You’re right. According to other user reviews, it’s an exaggeration to claim that “Learn Spanish (or whatever language) in Ten Days”.

You’ll be able to carry out really simple conversations in Spanish, but nobody would seriously say you spoke Spanish after that amount of study. I guess what does work is the spaced repetition method (see review at http://language101.com/reviews/pimsleur/).

There is another company (Simon & Schuster’s) sells Pimsleur language programs that include English for Mandarin Chinese speakers. But I doubt whether it’s suitable for learners who are already at more advanced level. (http://www.pimsleur.com/List-of-Languages).

Looking forward to your experiment results.

    • Great stuff! I really enjoying watching it, it reminds me one of ads on National Geographic: to learn like a baby does.

    • A couple of thoughts
He is right in getting people a head start on a foreign language – start from speaking it. However, most of us don’t have a language immersion milieu to start with. Secondly, there could be whole bunch of ways for advanced learners. Several thousands of words can only prevent you from being lost on the street or getting starved in a restaurant.

But it is an experiment that is worth trying. I will buy his French CD, see how far I can get in 10 days.

    • 观点有启发性。至于10天就能把一门崭新的语言学到可以交流的程度,听上去像天方夜谭。
