Sea Fever by John Masefield (1876-1967)

Sea Fever

I must go down to the seas again,
to the lonely sea and the sky,
and all i ask is a tall ship and
a star to steer her by;
and the wheel's kick and the wind's song
and the white sails shaking,
and a gray mist on the sea's face,
and a gray dawn braking.

I must go down to the seas again,
for the call of the running tide
is a wild call and a clear call
that may no be denied;
and all i ask is a windy day with
the white clouds flying,
and the flung spray and the blown spume,
and the sea-gulls crying.

I must go down to the seas again,
to the vagrant gypsy life,
to the gull's way and the whale's way
where the wind's like a whetted knife;
and all i ask is a merry yarn
from a laughing fellow-rover,
and quiet sleep and a sweet dream
when the long trick's over.

      I must down to the seas again, to the lonely sea and the sky,
      我迫切的感受到海洋和天空寂寞的呼喚, 而必須立刻出帆.
      And all I ask is a tall ship and a star to steer her by,
      我只需要的只是一條大點的船, 能指引我方向的一顆明星,
      And the wheel's kick and the wind's song and the white sail's shaking,
      滾動的轉輪, 風的歌唱, 隨著風搖曳生姿的白帆,
      And a grey mist on the sea's face, and a grey dawn breaking.
      環繞在洋面上的薄霧, 和破曉的黎明.

      I must down to the seas again, for the call of the running tide
      我迫切的感受到浪潮的呼喚, 而必須立刻出航.
      Is a wild call and a clear call that may not be denied;
      她的呼喚是這般的熱切和清楚, 讓人無法抵擋;
      And all I ask is a windy day with the white clouds flying,
      我需要的只是些強風, 飛舞的白雲
      And the flung spray and the blown spume, and the sea-gulls crying.
      浪拍岸上濺出的泡沫和不斷嗚叫的海鷗.

      I must down to the seas again, to the vagrant gypsy life,
      我迫切的感受到海洋的招喚, 似乎要我追隨著她過著吉普賽般流浪的生活,
      To the gull's way and the whale's way where the wind's like a whetted knife;
      朝著海鷗和鯨魚, 刺風呼喊的方向去;
      And all I ask is a merry yarn from a laughing fellow-rover
      我所需要的只是個能一起大聲談笑和分享奇遇的夥伴,
      And quiet sleep and a sweet dream when the long trick's over.
      且能在辛苦的旅程結束後漸入夢鄉, 一覺安眠.
