My name is Said; I am a university student. I am writing this letter to you and others in the hope of touching your hearts. Since I do not know you, it is with a lot of thought and a feeling of great responsibility that I have decided to write this letter.
At the moment, a large-scale human tragedy is taking place in China: the lives of approximately 70-100 million practitioners of the meditation method Falun Gong are in danger. These practitioners are brutally persecuted, tortured and murdered. The lawlessness in China can be compared to that in Germany 60 years ago. Practitioners have consistently been denied the right to spiritual belief and practice, work, housing, identification documents, etc. All the deaths of Falun Gong practitioners are as a result of torture, yet the Chinese regime has classified them as suicides. It has been confirmed, with names or other details, that 396 practitioners have been tortured to death. However, in October 2001, sources from within the government revealed that the figure was well over 1600. More than 20 000 practitioners have been sent to labour camps and more than 100 000 have been arrested.
On 5 March 2002, in the city of Changchun in China, Falun Gong practitioners interrupted the eight-channel cable T.V. broadcasting with a film which clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong in China. After the incident, President Jiang Zemin ordered a series of executions of all the persons who took part in the event; he said, "kill them without mercy".

Facts about Falun Gong: Falun Gong (a.k.a. Falun Dafa) is a qigong and meditation method which is practised in over 50 countries. The method can help the practitioner to spiritually transcend by following the universal characteristics of Truth-Benevolence-Forbearance. In 1992 the founder, Li Hongzhi, started and spread Falun Gong in China; the number of practitioners soon exceeded 100 million. The Chinese regime banned Falun Gong on 22 July, 1999. The ban is contrary to the constitution of China and is against basic human rights. Falun Gong practitioners have, during the more than two years of persecution, always used peaceful means to try to bring an end to the persecution.
