thanks vista, let it become your own habit, this is so important

本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛I heard Jerry said the same thing too. Yeah, that's right, if it has become your habit, you don't think about it when you pronunce it, it will be as natural as you speak your native language. Right now, I've corrected quite a few pronunciations, I know what's the right one, how to do it, so the rest of stuff is to KEEP it in every word, every sentence, today, tomorrow... Now I am seeing the light at the end of dark tunnel.

I do agree with yur that singing an english song is a good way to improve pronunciation, i am a good singer too. especially the connections between words, cos' in a song, you have to connect them all together, otherwise it doesn't sound right at all.

last point, muscles, right, it's about getting used to a new habit (your lips, tongue, or everything related to a pronunciation). For example, for TH, i used to pronounce it individually perfectly, but when it came down to a word in a sentence, the I forgot to put my tongue in the right position. If you ask me now, i will say I can do it right 90% right. So it's just a matter of getting used to it. HOwever I do realized that this is not an easy job, and it takes lots of energy for me to get there.

anyway, too much said here. Thanks for sharing your experience with me.更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net

  • 工作学习 / English / 请问有谁全程上过Jerry Dai的口语课, 我想知道效果如何?多谢!
    • 效果很好
      • 托!
        • lol
      • Shill
      • tuo
      • neww(sleepy) is the staff working for Jerry class in XXX. what a shame! crap class!
    • first of all, i am not a 'tuo', second of all, i completed Jerry's part 1 and am half way thru part 2. It works fine for me so far
本文发表在 rolia.net 枫下论坛a word of caution: it won't work if you are not practicing it really hard after class . actually this is true for any type of training.
it won't work for anyone who is self-disciplined and has already found a way to perfection and it's just a matter of practice.
it works for me as i've seen some improvements myself.
Jerry's inspirational stories encouraged me to study harder and I started to believe that I can do the same thing, and it's just a matter of time & practice.
I came to the class with the impression that I've got 60% of the pronunciations correct, actually all of them were wrong.
you may ask the question, did you get 100% correct at the end of the class? of course not, however I do know what's right and how to get there, and I think that's the most important thing for me in this class. Ultimately, it all comes down to how YOU can make it happen - how bad you want it, how much effort/energy you put into it. Be it Jerry, Larry, or Mary, no one can make you speak perfect english overnight. what they are doing is to point you to the right direction and give you a push. YOu, as a learner, still have to do all the rest.
one last word, take actions instead of just sitting and waiting for some magic things to happen. A thousand mile journey starts with a little step.
      cheers!更多精彩文章及讨论,请光临枫下论坛 rolia.net
      • 钉住. wow, your English is almost as good as Jerry, ....
        • thanks, i think it's about attitude, always looks for rooms of improvement
          • You are not Jerry, are you?
            • i wish. he might be teaching the class at the moment and too busy to look at this forum. actually I created a blog for my pronunciation perfection process, see url
              http://spaces.msn.com/2cents2share/blog/

the point is : i am serious about this stuff, and i am working it
              • You're courageous. Pronounciation is an easy thing to do. The other day I was speaking English with a 25 year old Chinese guy who came here at 12. He is only speaking 60% of Canadian accent only.
He also worked hard on his pronounciations too. We talked the whole night in English. He was surprized that I am speaking with near perfect North American pronounciations while I came here at late 20's and now in 30's. I also mentioned to him that a guy called Jerry did it so well at the age of 20's. I said you should be doing better because you came so young. Today I received an email from him again asking me to correct his pronounciations to North American accent. If you want to exchange ideas with me, I welcome you people who have same interests. I remember the night the guy said to me: Now you don't need to improve your pronunciation any more, because you're already doing near perfect. But as you said and I agreed, there is always room for improvement.
                • i am definitely gonna give you a call, some times just got so busy and lazy
                • Sorry, I mean pronounciation is NOT an easy thing to do.
                • vista, have a qustion for you: have you gone thru any cycles or stages in terms of grasping pronunciation?
have you ever run into a situation where you feltstuck and got no progess or very little progress?
right now, I am in jerry's class and doing his dialog pretty good, however outside of the dialog , i mean during day-to-day converstions, i totally forget a lot of correct pronunciations. Have you ever had similar experience? how did you get over it?
                  thanks
                  • It's a just matter of habit. I do slack off a bit sometimes but not to the extent that I would go back to my Chinese accent. Now, I have made a lot of North American pronunciations my own habit.
so I don't have to think to pronunce them correctly. You'll get there sooner or later. But be strict with yourself, don't slack off too much.
                  • Probably I haven't answer your question yet. I didn't go through cycles of on-track off-track. What I experienced was continuous improvement.
It's easy to pronunce English the way you think it to be, but it's a lot of work to pronunce English the way it's supposed to be. Feel your muscles when you fine-tuning your pronunciation. Try to sing English songs. I am good singer of many English songs. Singing can train your pronunciation muscles to be more flexiable.

                  • This is the 效果! "during day-to-day converstions, i totally forget a lot of correct pronunciations. " - this what I got before too. Learning pronunication from Jerry in Canada doesn't make any sense
                    • Just waste you guys' money and time!
I took the course, but I did not work hard to practice the stuff. Some students made amazing improvement in oral English because of their hard work.
        • agree
        • True!!! Especially shame on neww(sleepy) - the staff working for Jerry class in XXX.
    • Hey people, go do something more interesting! This discussion can go on and on forever! Be considerate to other Rolians when you pick topics, please!
