is effective for improving one's English ability...because people who are willing to pay for such an English course are really serious about improving their English, hence they are more likely to spend more time on English learning than those who don't want to take an English course.

So the fact is, if you are going to take this course, then actually you don't have to because you can do it yourself plus what Lovenature said
If you don't want to take this course, then forget it. Simply taking an Chinese-taught English class won't give you any magics.

    Chinese here are funny.

    They do not like to watch tv, listen radios to improve English. Instead of taking a class with a native teacher, they hubmbly registered chinese teacher for teaching English.

    Imagine foreigners come to China. They want to learn Chinese. They don't read Chinese
    newspaper, do not watch Chinese TV, no Chinese radio. And they register a Canadian native for teaching Chinese

    Show time.

      Hundreds of immigrants attended Jerry's English class. Everyone has his/her own reason. I have been in Canada for six years. I watched lots of TV programs. I went to to an America man for one on one teaching. That did not work well. After all that attempt, I took Jerry's class. Though I was not a good student, I did not work hard to practice the stuff. I did see some students who worked very hard were making amazing improvement.

      If you really want to improve your oral English, Jerry's method is a good way that is worth trying.

      I talk to my white co-workers, I have business trips with white guys and talk all day long.
      When I came canada, my English was so aweful, after a few years, I even can do IT training jobs in company new.
      I've never hanged in a CHINESE English corner in Canada, but I learned English from Chinese guy Jerry - which taught me never ever to learn English from a Chinese guy any more!
      You're correct, and I also encourage new comers to listen to radio, watch TV, find fun in Hockey, look for chances to talk to native people and make friends with them - you'll improve your listening and oral English soon in this way.
      Any Chinese guys' English class in Canada are all profit-driven, they're not worth considering, and even talking here.

        In China, people do not have access to English media, universities paied high salary to hire
        native seaking teachers to teach students.

        Here, you have got full access to these things, and you go back to ask a Chinese teacher to
        teach you English. the funniest thing it to teach your pronunciation.

        Fooled once, shame on you, fooled twice, shame on oneself.

        Money is good, but beyond that, there is integrity, dignity and love.

        Those Chinese media shut up mouth for the ads revenue, but I want to point out this is
        the No. 1 funnest phenomenon in Chinese community.

        • I was driven by Jerry's speech to take the class, but didn't get anywhere. Actually, 3/4 registered students left his class before finished. Why don't you visit his real class to see how Jerry's yelling -lovefuture(the Brick); 2006-5-18 {802} (#2978433@0)

          Imagination is always bueatiful, and this is also why my friends and I attended his class. I believe you are imagining how wonderful Jerry's class is from Jerry's speech and Maria' ads. But it really not!
          Please don't make more arguement here. I support hipacific(crystalblue), and try to help Chinese guys get good life in Canada.
          Taking Jerry's class is a part of improving my English, but I didn't get it. As I mentioned before, there are many methods to help us, and I did and am doing them. I've been through my English from not being able to talk to providing IT training to customers within a few years.
          I shared my experience in Jerry's class and my thoughts of dealing with English. If you think it helps, I'm happy, if not, Maria definitely welcomes you.
